FAQ
Are you hiring?
I might be! Send a query letter with your full name, crew position(s) or acting reel(s), email, phone number, and your resume with any links to your past work to sam@samfelman.com and we'll set up a meeting. Do NOT send me any work you are proposing we work on together. For legal reasons, I cannot accept solicited materials, only works that have been released to the general public. Thank you for understanding.
Do you work solo or with a team?
I have several crews of talented people I love working with, so we can scale up or down depending on your project's needs.
How long does a project take?
It varies, but I like to deliver the final product within two weeks from the final filming day. I'm happy to work with you to set a timeline that fits your schedule. Share your requested delivery date with me here.
What are your prices?
It depends, because my prices are customized to fit your needs. The cost for most film projects vary based on the amount of locations, cast and crew members, hours of footage, upload and download speeds, editing requirements, filming days and more. I'll break it down for you upfront so there are no surprises.
How many changes do I get during a project?
During the planning phase, you can make as many changes as you want unless they change the overall scope of the project. During editing, I usually provide two rounds of revisions after you receive the first rough cut. My specifics about changes during a project are outlined in your onboarding paperwork. Contact me if you want an extra copy here.
How do we collaborate?
Let's chat about your vision first. Then, I'll keep you in the loop every step of the way, from planning to delivery!
What gear do you use?
My team and I use a wide range of industry-standard professional cameras, lights, audio equipment, and editing software that vary from project to project depending on the needs of my client. I'm happy to go over any specific questions or concerns you have at our next meeting.
What services do you offer?
I do it all—brainstorming, scripting, directing, shooting, editing, you name it. Fully customizable to fit your needs. Here's a link to my services page.
Where can I see your past work?
You can watch some of my past work in the portfolio section of this website.
What is your filmmaking background?
I started as an assistant to a casting director for commercials, then transitioned to helping with picture vehicles. To better understand acting, I took classes, worked as a photo double in a big movie, and did a lot of background work. Eventually, I became a production assistant in reality TV.
Wanting to advance, I went back to school and earned a BA in screenwriting. Shortly after, I began writing and directing actor reels while accumulating hundreds of props and costumes to make my work look believable. This led to my first production design job, where I found success as a designer and set dresser for independent movies, TV pilots, and commercials. I also freelanced for a recycling company that primarily worked with commercial production companies, where I became passionate about sustainability and recycling. Today, many of my props and costumes are recycled from well-known TV shows and commercials.
An injury made me shift gears, and lead me to my first corporate job as an in-house filmmaker for a major franchise. I quickly advanced in responsibility and vision, but the work slowed down so I was put on contract. I decided to go back to school and earned a certificate in marketing with the additional achievement of making the dean's list.
While taking marketing classes, I applied what I learned to my freelance filmmaking business and started seeing success right away. Today, I help business owners and video producers with video marketing and video production services.
